“A simple practice of intentionality: When I do it, my life is different. More purposeful, more consciously lived, more content with any action” — Leo Babauta //
I plan to be intentional in my travel experience. That does not mean that I will figure out everything about my trip and itinerary in advance. In fact as I write this, all I know for sure in terms of a trip itinerary is that I depart the USA in late August and fly into Singapore, and leave from Bangkok for home in late November.
No, what I mean is this. I will soon have an experience. Well, many experiences actually. And as I have those experiences, I will be intentional in the way I approach, experience, and come away from different events and circumstances.
My intention behind my intentional experiences, that is, the reason I am intending to have this trip in the first place, is multifold. (yes, I was wondering how many times I could use some form of intend in the last sentence and still be grammatically correct ) To list just a few goals, I intend to:
- See the world and be immersed in different cultures, to broaden my perspective
- Use my experiences to learn to better appreciate life every day, through good times and bad
- Better understand myself and grow as an individual
- Learn new skills and develop new abilities
- Check off a trip and experience that has long been on my bucket list
Most importantly, I want to get the most out of my travel experience each and every day, and really take in what is going on in my surroundings, so that I can come back having learned a whole bunch of life lessons. In fact, part of my plan to stay accountable to that goal is to, internet availability permitting, share my unique experiences and life lessons learned through this blog. I will then bring those learnings back with me after my travels and can be a better person to myself and to the world for it.
Listing out my intentions behind traveling was an important and powerful exercise. It helped me clarify what it is I want to get out of my trip. As a result, as I travel I can organize my trip in a certain way and identify specific regions I would like to visit and activities I would like to pursue. By proactively seeking what I ultimately intend to get out of the trip, I can make sure that I use my time well and have the most fulfilling experience possible.
Lessons Learned:
- Being intentional in your travel experiences can help to clarify your goals and make sure that you do whatever it is you are trying to do
- Writing down your intent in traveling can make it feel more “real”
- Setting up a method of accountability – such as blogging or some other tangible action – can help you stay on track and ensure you pursue your goals
Are you intentional in the way you approach travel? Are you intentional in the way you approach life every day?
How do I get into your blog?
This is my blog If you mean, how do you get to different articles, you can click “Home” at the top of the screen and you’ll see all the articles I’ve written. Alternatively, you can look on the right hand side of any page and see Recent Posts, or all articles listed by date or category.
Once I start my trip, this will be the best way to see what new posts I put on my blog.
